After thoroughly inspecting this vehicle, I realized it only had about 40,000 original miles on it, and did not deserve to be cut up. I then proceeded to do a frame-off, nut and bolt restoration, which took about nine months. I completed in on the Friday morning that I was driving up to Solvang for the 2004 show! My Dad bought this car in October 1963, just in time for us four kids to get our drivers' licenses. Consequently, he rarely got to drive it. It survived all of us teenagers, with the exception of the G1500 engine. It was replaced with a '65 R1600, after my brother's run to Mammoth abruptly ended with a cracked block. The wire had fallen off the heat sending unit so the overheating condition went unnoticed until it was too late. I purchased it from Dad late in 1969, and have tried my best to keep it nice and on the road. It's been in and out of storage for the past 15 years. The odometer accurately reads 159,385 miles. The car currently is not running. If it's not one thing, it's another! This time, it seems to be the starter. I could use some help, advice, and moral support from some local, fellow Datsun lovers!
